The Dolch List

These words need to be revised regularly until your child is able to read them with minimal, or no, hesitation.
The lists are ordered; easier words are in the beginning lists. (1-5) Your child should revise at least one list several times on each school night.

To use these lists, ensure that Flash (download here) is installed on your computer, and that speakers are turned on, or (preferably) headphones are working.

• Double click on "List 1" below.
• A page will appear in your browser, with the word "all" in large black type, and a large red button. Your child should attempt to read the word "all", then click the button ONCE. The word "all" should then be heard from your speakers.
• Click the red button once more. The next word ("am") will appear. Your child should attempt to read the word BEFORE clicking to hear the word.
• Continue in this manner until all fifteen words have been attempted.

If after some days your child appears to be growing bored with a particular list, do not be afraid to move onto the next list. He or she can always go back and revise a particularly troublesome list.
